President of Slovakia Ivan Gašparovič with his wife Silvia welcomed on January 12, 2010 in the Presidential Palace in Bratislava about hundred representatives and members of the Association of Towns and Municipalities (ZMOS).

At the meeting, which is traditionally held at the beginning of a new year, President of Slovakia thanked mayors of Slovak towns and villages for the work they do for their fellow citizens.

For the ZMOS members thanked Mr. President and Mrs. Gašparovičová the ZMOS-President Michal Sýkora: "We really appreciate this continuous tradition, which values the local territorial self-government, its leaders and their activities. Representatives of cities and villages every day are addressing a number of problems posed by everyday life. We are dealing with tasks that are often not planned, but we can not circumvent them. On the other hand we have to solve them very operational regardless of whether it is a working day or public holiday."
