"The fragile power" – this slogan marked the third annual awards for nurses. On 12 March 2010 was held in the Arena Theater a grand gala, where the public learned this year’s winner – the nurse of the year 2009. The patronage above the event hold of the First Lady Mrs. Silvia Gašparovičová, Slovakia´s Prime Minister Robert Fico and the Minister of Health Richard Raši. The 13-member jury did the best in choosing the best ones. As Mrs. Silvia Gašparovičová said, "For an extremely self-sacrificing and hard work the award should go to each of you, dear sisters." The award for lifetime achievement in nursing has received Mrs. Emília Lepiešová from the Central Medical School in Žilina.
In her speech First Lady Mrs. Gašparovičová commended the work of nurses, who are the backbone both of patients and doctors. "Today’s event is a big thank for your extraordinary work, that will certainly be a major uplift to your next work. You are the ones that are the backbone both of patients and doctors. I am glad that in the nomination for the second time appeared a man, which declares that this profession is not only female. There should be more and more men in this profession," said Mrs. Gašparovičová.
Awards in the category of nurse – provider of nursing care received from the hands of the First Lady Mrs. Emília Kunovská from University Hospital in Trnava. Winner of the category nurse-manager became Mrs. Anna Klučková from University Hospital in Nové Zámky. The best nurse-educator chose readers of the magazine Diabetics. It became Mrs. Alena Ongerová from Bratislava.
Aim of the event Nurse of the Year is to increase social prestige of the nursing profession in Slovakia and moral appreciation of their irreplaceable work. Winner of each category received jewelry – Rose of St. Elizabeth as a reminder of the deep traditions of nursing in Slovakia. |
