On 9-11 December 2012 the Slovak President Ivan Gašparovič and his wife Silvia paid made an official visit to the Czech Republic. At the Prague Castle was the Slovak presidential couple welcomed by the Czech President Václav Klaus and his wife Livia. Subsequently, the First Ladies of both countries viewed the Prague Castle and the renovated Villa Richter.

After lunch given by the President of the Senate of the Parliament of the Czech Republic Milan Štěch, the Slovak presidential couple visited the Strahov Monastery. Thereafter in the Old Town Hall Ivan Gašparovič and his spouse Silvia were welcomed by the Mayor of Prague Bohuslav Svoboda. In the evening First Ladies of the Czech and Slovak Republic visited small dancers of the Ballet School of the National Theatre in Prague and viewed their beautiful performances.

On 11 December 2012 the Slovak President and his wife laid a wreath at the National Honor Tomb to commemorate the Czechoslovak legionnaires and visited the National Museum, where they laid a bouquet of flowers to the memorial plaque of Alexander Dubček. At the end of the official visit to the Czech Republic Ivan Gašparovič and his wife Silvia visited the city of Kutná Hora.
