Slovak President Ivan Gašparovič, together with his spouse Silvia Gašparovičová attended on 13th April 2010 in the St. Martin Cathedral in Bratislava the Holy Mass for the victims from Poland that died in a plane crash in Russia’s Smolensk.

The holy mass was attended also by the Ambassador of the Republic of Poland in Slovakia Andrzej Krawczyk and other guests from Poland, Apostolic Nuncio in Slovakia Mario Giordana, other ambassadors in Slovakia, National Council members and Mayor of Bratislava Andrej Ďurkovský.

The mass was served by the Archbishop and President of the Conference of Bishops of Slovakia Stanislav Zvolenský. He expressed deep and sincere sympathy on behalf of bishops, priests and christians of slovak dioceses also to the President of the Bishops’ Conference of Poland Józef Michalik. "I assure you of our prayers for the victims of aviation disaster and for all the grieving survivors that are directly affected by this disaster. May the Risen Lord, whose victory over death these days we celebrate, strengthen you with hope of eternal life," commiserated the Archbishop Zvolenský.

Archbishop Zvolenský in his speech praised love and hope, which Jesus Christ gives us in the most difficult moments. Stanislav Zvolenský mentioned the Military Bishop Tadeusz Plosky who was addressed to speak at the commemorative event dedicated to the victims of Katyn massacre, and in which he was prepared the words: "We must be more sensitive to the voice of the Holy Spirit ...". In conclusion he expressed deep and honest condolences to the Polish Ambassador in Slovakia and all participating citizens of Poland.

People present at the holy mass prayed and beg for all victims of the tragedy, for their grieving families and loved ones, and for the people of Poland, which suffered a huge disaster.

The presidential couple also with this sacred form treated the memory of 96 victims of plane crash, in which the Polish President Lech Kaczyński with his spouse Maria and numerous delegation were killed. President Ivan Gašparovič and his spouse expressed with their participation in the holy mass deepest condolences to the entire Polish nation and the families of survivors in this most difficult moment, at which the faith can help overcome untold misery.
