Silvia Gašparovičová, wife of the president of the Slovak Republic was born on 13-th of January 1941 in Bratislava.

Education
Mrs. Gašparovičová graduated from secondary school in 1958. She studied at the Slovak Technical University the Faculty of Civil Engineering in Bratislava for 5 years. She has finished her studies at the university in 1965. In the years 1971-73 she completed a post-graduate course in economic law at the Faculty of Law of the Comenius University in Bratislava.

Working experiences
After her studies she was working 5 years in project design in the state-owned civil engineering company Pozemné stavby. Since the year 1971 till the year 1991 worked at the Ministry of Construction. In the year 1991 Silvia Gašparovičová received an appointment by the Bratislava Municipal Court to serve as an expert real estate appraiser. Since her husband became president she worked as executive of a private construction company.

Family 
Mrs. Silvia Gašparovičová and her husband Ivan Gašparovič were lovers of basketball, so thanks to this sport they got to know each other. They have two children - daughter Denisa and son Ivo, and two grandchildren. 

Language
She speaks fluently Russian language, German and English language passive.


As the First Lady, Silvia Gašparovičová has received important awards, decorations and plaques.

Decorations
Order of Catherine the Great, First Class, No. 15 – the Russian Federation, for merits and major contribution to Slovak-Russian relations (2006)
Grand Cross of Isabella of Castile – the Kingdom of Spain, for merits in the furthering of Slovak-Spanish relations (2007)
Ruby Cross – the International Commission on Public Awards and Perpetuation of Names of Individuals, States and Settlements, the Russian Federation, for exceptional public benefit activities in the field of charity and humanity (2010)
Royal Norwegian Order of Merit – the Kingdom of Norway (2010)
Henry Dunant Medal – Slovak Red Cross, for activities in favor of SRC (2011)
Order of Danneborg – the Kingdom of Denmark (2012)
