On the International Nurses Day the Slovak Chamber of Nurses and Midwives again organized a nationwide celebration seminar for nurses, in which also this year the nurses and midwives were appreciated. On 20 May 2011 received 30 nurses and midwives the White Heart award. The event was held under the auspices of the First Lady of Slovakia Mrs. Silvia Gašparovičová and the Minister of Health Mr. Ivan Uhliarik.

In her speech, the First Lady of Slovakia appreciated that despite the current unfavorable situation in health care nurses are still kindly to patients and care about them with a smile. "I am pleased that on this day we once again recognize exceptional nurses who dedicated their life to helping other in various departments in hospitals, often apart from themselves and their problems or needs," said Silvia Gašparovičová.

Spouse of the President is interested in the work of nurses and supports their activities. For her long-term support of nurses and midwives, in 2010 Mrs. Gašparovičová gained the honorary membership in the Slovak Chamber of Nurses and Midwives. "Social prestige and paying of nurses in Slovakia unfortunately do not show yet the importance of your profession and your requirements of conditions improvement that you recently published have my support," said at the meeting with nurses the First Lady.

President of the Slovak Chamber of Nurses and Midwives Mrs. Mária Lévyová emphasized at the meeting that nurses are always trying to work for patients. "We still will try to move forward, grow, because we want to emphasize – we are here at home, we want to take care of our patients. We don´t want to leave to Austria. I immensely appreciate that Mrs. Silvia Gašparovičová is here with us. Without hesitation, she is always willing to hear us and help us. She is our moral support," said Mária Lévyová.

From the hands of the First Lady Mrs. Silvia Gašparovičová took the White Heart Special Award Mrs. Anna Vaculíková from Trenčín. Humanity and humility against human suffering makes her a model for other nurses. Her long experience she continues to patiently transmit further, but she also educates herself – she e.g. graduated a management development course organized by the Kings Fund Colegge. With her comments she contributed to improving of health services in the Czech Republic and Slovakia. "I was always proud of me when people in Trenčín addressed me as a „nurse“. I am proud that I am a nurse," said Anna Vaculíková.

The white heart was officially selected as a worldwide symbol of nurses in 1999, at the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the International Council of Nurses. Slovak Chamber of Nurses and Midwives commends with this prestigious award honor to nurses and midwives. The award includes a silver heart-shaped jewel, which is a manifestation of human communication and at the same place, whence comes the quality of nursing care.
