The second day of the visit of the Italian Republic on 3 June 2011 visited President Ivan Gašparovič together with his wife Silvia the Veneto Region, namely the capital Venice. During the lunch, the presidential couple had the opportunity to discuss with assessor of the Veneto region for budget, cross-border and international cooperation and local organizations Mr. Robert Ciambetti.

On this occasion the First Lady presented activities of the Slovak Foundation of Silvia Gašparovičová – Education and Health for Everybody. "Through the Foundation we are trying to assist the health sector to provide life-saving equipment, to train long-term unemployed and socially disadvantaged people, as well as abused women and handicapped children. We gave our helping hand to many people. I actively support projects aimed at health, education, science and sport," said the First Lady of Slovakia at the meeting.

The presidential couple looked at the city of Venice, Church of the Scuola di San Rocco, the Basilica of San Marco and Palazzo Ducale. The Veneto Region is among the most advanced in Italy, together with the regions of Lombardy (Milan) and Piedmont (Turin). In Veneto around 500,000 firms are operating in different sectors, which represents approximately 9% of the total number of firms in the country. Strengths of the Veneto economy are mainly small and medium-sized enterprises, the best sectors are commerce (23%), agriculture (18%) and construction (16%), textiles, small craft companies that specialize mainly in furniture, jewelry, footwear, glass, food. Well known Venice brands are e.g. Benetton, Stefanel, Monti, Gaggia.
