First Lady of Slovakia Mrs. Silvia Gašparovičová visited on 26 October 2011 the Children´ Cardiocentre in Bratislava-Kramáre (DKC). On this occasion, the First Lady got acquainted not only with the history but also with current activities of the centre.

Director of the National Institute of Cardio and Vascular Diseases Mr. Mongi Msolly thanked the First Lady for having visited the center. "We are very glad that you visited us. DKC is a highly specialized work station of its kind in Slovakia, but also worldwide," said Mongi Msolly. At the same time he approached Silvia Gašparovičová the project of completion of a new DKC pavilion, which should grow at the National Institute of Cardio and Vascular Diseases in Bratislava.

Head of the Intensive Care Unit of the DKC Cardiology Department Mr. Pavol Kunovský informed at the meeting not only about the history of DKC, but also about future plans. As the most common problems of the DKC he identified inadequate facilities and limited number of operations due to the small number of beds. He also noted that "after completion of the new pavilion health care will be provided for patients of all ages. That means from birth to the oldest ones."

The First Lady was really interested in problematic issues and the status of completion of the DKC. Mrs. Silvia Gašparovičová appreciated the work of doctors and medical staff. "I am glad that I became familiar with your project of completion or the Children´ Cardiocentre because it will ensure a comprehensive patient care. I appreciate your work by which you save the lives of our youngest," said after the meeting Silvia Gašparovičová.

Wife of the President, who is also President of the Slovak Foundation of Silvia Gašparovičová – Education and Health for Everybody, viewed also several DKC departments and rendered small gifts to patients.

The Children´ Cardiocentre in Bratislava is the only specialized facility of its kind in Slovakia. It provides care for children of all ages with congenital and acquired heart and blood vessels diseases. It was founded in 1992 and followed up the activities of the 1st Child Clinic of the Children’s Faculty Hospital in Bratislava and the Department of Child Cardiology and Cardiosurgery at the Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases in Bratislava. From the 1st January 2009 is the DKC a facility of the National Institute of Cardio and Vascular Diseases in Bratislava.
