On 23 and 24 October 2012 First Lady of Slovakia Mrs. Silvia Gašparovičová along with her husband President Ivan Gašparovič paid an official visit to the Kingdom of Denmark. With highest honors at the airport in Copenhagen was the Slovak presidential couple welcomed by Her Majesty Queen Margrethe II. and His Royal Highness Prince Consort, along with Prince Frederik and Joachim, and their spouses.

During the first day of the official visit Mrs. Silvia Gašparovičová visited the Gladsaxe Gymnasium in Copenhagen, which has been cooperating with Slovak schools in Bratislava and Poprad. Students of the school presented the Slovak First Lady details of joint projects and future plans. "I’m very glad I could visit your school. I wish you successful mutual cooperation and continuing in your common projects," said Mrs. Gašparovičová.

First Lady of Slovakia then visited the modern apartment complex "8 Tallet", which offers a new look at the architecture of housing. In the afternoon together with her husband she attended the opening of the exhibition of photographs by Laco Struhár "Magic Slovakia", pictures by Peter Uchnár "Peter´s Peter Pan" and viewed an exhibition of international children’s book illustrations BIBIANA Denmark. This unique Danish-Slovak cultural project – a regular center of culture and art for children and children’s literature illustrations – was modeled as the Bibiana in Bratislava (Slovakia). The event was attended also by slovak compatriots. In the evening, the head of state and his wife attended a state banquet arranged by the Queen Margrethe II. at Fredensborg Palace.

On 24 October 2012 First Lady of Slovakia along with Her Royal Highness Crown Princess Mary visited the Geelsgaard School, which is a local special school for children and youth with various forms of reduced physical, sensory or psychological ability. In addition to basic education the school provides a range of training and activation opportunities for young people with special needs. Then both ladies viewed the Rosenborg Palace, in which the Danish crown jewels are stored.

After lunch hosted by the Danish Prime Minister the presidential couple viewed Copenhagen by a ship – the cruise was mainly focused on sustainable development, energy efficiency, water treatment and waste management. In the evening a small concert of Slovak artists with a reception was held. In this way guests could taste traditional Slovak cuisine and wine.
