On 6 december 2012 dozens of children from orphanages eagerly waited in the Great Hall of the Presidential Palace till the decorated doors open and St. Nicholas appears.

President Ivan Gašparovič and his wife Silvia Gašparovičová warmly welcomed children from the orphanage in Sereď, the orphanage Sunshine in Polomka and the children’s home of St. Clement Hofbauer in Podolínec.

Santa Claus visited the Presidential Palace

At the beginning of the meeting the Presidential couple along with children lighted up the Christmas tree and Christmas decorations around the Presidential Palace.

How do only children know, they enthusiastically welcomed St. Nicholas, who brought a huge bag of gifts for children into the Great Hall. They enjoyed it that much that they competed in who tells the St. Nicholas the most beautiful poem or a song or carol. When the children left the Presidential Palace, their way was already lighted by the festive Christmas decorations.

Next year for the meeting with the President and his spouse in the Presidential Palace will come children from the orphanage Hope in Bernolákovo, the orphanage Evangelical Diakonia Center in Banská Bystrica and the orphanage in Košická Nová Ves.
