On 18 – 20 May 2012 at the Spa Island in Piešťany took place the 4th annual international meeting of craftsmen ´Traditional Handicrafts´ under the patronage of the First Lady of Slovakia Mrs. Silvia Gašparovičová. The organizer of the event was the civic association Traditional Folk Crafts, the Spa Piešťany and the town of Piešťany.
On 19 May 2012 inaugurated the festival First Lady Mrs. Silvia Gašparovičová: "Art craft products, presented also here, are an important reminder of the crafts and traditions of the country. Every nation, Slovakia included, is closely tied with its traditional culture. Presentations and activities that make our traditions and customs, as well as from other countries, more visible, I always admire and support. That´s the reason why I took over the patronage of this beautiful event this year."
Aim of the event was to show the public traditional folk arts and crafts products from Slovakia, but also of other six countries – Hungary, Czech Republic, Poland, Serbia, Croatia and China. Together they introduced 53 kinds of crafts. Also workshops for children who had a chance to try out crafts of grandmothers and fathers were done. Also sheltered workshops for disabled people participate each year in the event. |
