On 16 and 17 October 2009 visited Mrs. Silvia Gašparovičová together with her husband President Ivan Gašparovič Romania. During the first day of the official visit First Lady also visited historical sites in Bucharest. Together with the wife of the President of Romania Mrs. Maria Basescu they visited the National Museum Cotroceni. First Ladies could see rare collections of Romanian and world art, but also viewed facilities of the museum that have been rebuilt in neo-romanesque style by architect Griigore Cerchez – due to meet the demands of Queen Mary.

Mrs. Silvia Gašparovičová in Bucharest also met with representatives of the company Auren. It is a slovak company that distributes precious stones of the company Swarovski. Company representatives made Mrs. Silvia Gašparovičová familiar with the experience of doing business in this country. In Romania, the company is building its own retail network.

Official visit to Romania

During the second day of the official the presidential couple visited slovak compatriots. They visited the village Nová Huta in northwest Romania, where they were welcomed by hundreds of fellow countrymen also from other municipalities. Outside of the school with Slovak language of instruction they were warmly welcomed by the mayor and priest Albert Augustine, as well as the headmistress. The president and his wife have jointly viewed the local school, municipal office and parish. In the municipal office in Nová Huta were agreements on cooperation between the municipalities Nová Huta, Terchová and Lúčky signed. The presidential couple also brought gifts for children in elementary school – books and various school supplies. "I firmly believe that thanks to this books you will find it easier to learn Slovak," said the spouse of the slovak President Mrs. Silvia Gašparovičová, who wished our compatriots many luck and would like to meet them in the future.
