For the 15th time this year prestigious award for the slovak constructions were rendered. The gala evening ceremony on 1st October 2009 attended also First Lady Mrs. Silvia Gašparovičová. "I´m delighted that you give the opportunity not only to professionals but also to the general public to perceive and evaluate the beauty of your works that are everywhere around us. I´m glad that for the first time in history also the general public could participate in the vote for the most beautiful building," said Mrs. Silvia Gašparovičová.

Construction of the Year 2009

Among the 29 building public gave the most votes to the building of the Grand Hotel Kempinski in High Tatras – reconstruction of the object in Štrbské pleso. Mrs. Gašparovičová rendered the award to the winner. She has experience in building. "I know that the profession ´civil engineer´ is not easy. It is a piece of hard work, but it´s even nicer when you see the end result of beautiful and functional works. Joy from them you have not only for yourself, but also the public," said Mrs. Silvia Gašparovičová. She added that also the construction industry feels economic crisis. "You have less contracts than in past, many buildings under construction are slowing and in some cases the start is delayed. Everybody, however, believes that this will change shortly."

Construction of the Year 2009

The main prize of the event, that is annually organized by the Association for the Development of Slovak Architecture and Construction – ABF Slovakia – got this year a new trade and administrative center Trosky (Wreckage) in Banská Bystrica. "The prize won a beautiful work. The design is bold and sensitively handled, it has a decent color. The beautiful and modern city dominates at the Hron river," said ABF President Mrs. Mária Brichtová.
