On 1st January 2009 Mrs. Silvia Gašparovičová participated with her husband at the ceremonial mass in St. Martin’s Concathedral in Bratislava celebrating Solemnity of Mary, Mother of God and the 16th anniversary of the establishment of the Slovak Republic. The mass has been said by His Excellency archbishop Stanislav Zvolenský, metropolitan archbishop of Bratislava.

In the evening the presidential couple visited the New year’s concert in the Slovak Philharmony, hearing the best known melodies of the Romantic period. The concert has been held under the patronage of the President of the Slovak Republic, Mr. Ivan Gašparovič. Soloists Eva and Dalibor Jenis performed under the conduct of Peter Feranec.
