On January 8th 2009 Ivan Gašparovič along with his wife Silvia visited the gala performance “Good bye Crown, welcome Euro“ in the Slovak National Theatre (SND). It was the official welcome of the Euro currency in Slovakia and by the same the farewell from the Slovak crown.

All three highest constitutional representatives along with their wives, members of parliament and the government of the Slovak Republic were present in the happening. Among the visitors were foreign representatives - José Manuel Barroso, President of the European Comission; Joaquín Almunia, Economic & Financial Affairs Comissioner; Jean-Claude Trichet, President of the European Central Bank. Also representatives of recent eurozone entrants from 2007-2008, Slovenia, Malta, Cyprus and Prime Ministers of neighbouring EU countires, Austria, Czech Republic, Poland and Hungary visited Bratislava on this occasion. The list of guests is completed with the Prime Ministers of Luxemburg and Latvia, governors of central banks of the eurozone and EU countries‘ ambassadors to Slovakia.

The gala performance celebrating the adoption of the Euro featured prominent Slovak artists, soloists of the Opera of SND, music, dance and artistic ensembles.
