The First Lady took patronage of the Arms of Rescue project which is another stage of the Nest of Rescue project. The Nest of Rescue project was started last year by a civic association called A Chance for the Unwanted with an aim to establish public incubators, a common practice in many countries in the world, in Slovakia. Since the start, three Nests of Rescue - in Bratislava, Žilina and Prešov – have been established and four human lives have been rescued thanks to the sponsors and partners. Thanks to the sponsors, another seven Nests of Rescue will be established in Slovakia by the end of the year, which means that then Slovakia will have ten Nests of Rescue altogether.

At the celebration organized by the civic association A Chance for the Unwanted in the Aréna Theater on Saturday evening, First Lady of the Slovak Republic Silvia Gašparovičová took over the project patronage from the EU Parliament member Irena Belohorská. Even though in the future, the project will not focus on establishing Nests of Rescue, it will continue in spring 2006 with an international conference of neonatology and a benefit concert to start another stage called Arms of Rescue. Its aim will be to help women in critical situations and offer them conditions so that they could keep their children forever.

„The Arms of Rescue Project has a lofty goal to rescue the most beautiful connection in the world – the bond of a mother and her child. It wants that also those mothers who are not in the situation to keep their children with them could find a place of certainty in the Arms of Rescue facilities. I warmly welcome this noble idea and thank all those who came up with this idea and contributed to its implementation. I also thank all those who decided to support it. Mother’s love is a very strong feeling that can fill the whole life of a woman and give it meaning," said the First Lady in her address and expressed her wish that the project fulfill its mission and rescue as many indivisible links of mothers and children as possible.
