„It’s great that you strengthen and bring back the health of children also in this way,“ said Silvia Gašparovičová to the organizers upon leaving the lively St. Nicola’s party, full of songs and laughs, which was held in the Children Teaching Hospital and Policlinic in Bratislava.
It was one of the meetings of the First Lady with children and St. Nicolas, but as she put it herself this one was probably the nicest and most impressive because “here the children could forget all about pains, illnesses and hospital beds thanks to the amusing programme.
The programme, which was really jolly and far from being boring, was prepared by teachers from the elementary school of the hospital, the largest hospital school in Slovakia. And the main roles of the angels and „devishly friendly” devils were played by the teachers themselves, St. Nicolas being played but nobody else than the director of the school, Dr. Zuzana Skákalová.
A lot of presents were given away, and some chocolate ones were brought along also by Mrs. Gašparovičová. Hospital Director Dr. Kamila Tóthová informed the First Lady that the hospital capacity is 370 beds, in main cases 300-330 beds being occupied by children aged from 3 to 18. The most serious and saddest are oncologic cases whose number, unfortunately, increases, while the age of patients decreases. In addition to the medical treatment, all of them, doctors, nurses and teachers, emphasize first of all friendly, kind and tender approach to their children patients. In return for this, they receive a number of laudatory letters and acknowledgments.
Another complimentary remark was added in the Children Hospital’s Book of Valued Visitors was added also by the wife of the Slovak Republic President, Mrs. Silvia Gašparovičová.
