“I am happy that a new tradition with a noble purpose has been started. The Special Olympics international iceskating championship named after the legend of this sport, Mrs Hilda Múdra, is certainly such an event. It is a very good idea to involve the mentally disabled in sports, enabling them to grow both physically and mentally, to stregthen their self-consciousness and to cope,” said Mrs Gašparovičová when awarding the sportsmen and sportswomen.

“Any of us can imagine how strong must be the people with any kind of handicap that makes their living nothing but easy. I wish that all those being limited to live their lives on an equal level with others not be lonely, unsupported, while this uniting rather than separating us,” added the First Lady. In conclusion of the awarding ceremony, she thanked Mrs. Hilda Múdra for her intention to carry out such a special and demanding project, the town of Nitra, the management of the Ice Stadium and Olympia Hotel for hosting the championship, and wished all of the participants success in the future.
