The Sovereign Order of the Knights of Malta has had its mission in Slovakia since 1993, and they have become known to the public in particular through their charity activities. The charity organization called Maltese Aid has also been active in Slovakia. The mission of this organization is to help people who, for various reasons, are in need and cannot get any help from the state or their relatives.

The first major joint project of the Slovak Foundation of Silvia Gašparovičová – Education and Health for Everybody, and the Sovereign Order of the Knights of Malta should be the project of treating serious skin diseases of children coming from socially disadvantaged families. This was also the main topic of discussions on Tuesday. At this meeting, the representatives of the Italian pharmaceutical company presented some samples of pharmaceutical products to support the treatment of skin diseases. After these products have been registered by the Slovak Pharmaceutical Authority, the Embassy will distribute the drugs through the Foundation of the First Lady, to Slovak children who need them.
