First Lady of Slovakia Mrs. Silvia Gašparovičová on 10 April 2013 at the Presidential Palace at the occasion of the World Day for Parkinson’s Disease in Slovakia, which takes place on 11th April 2013, met with representatives of Parkinson Slovakia Association. Representatives of the Association passed to Mrs. Gašparovičová a bouquet of red tulips, due to the fact that the tulip flower became a world symbol of this serious neurological disease. Through the Slovak Foundation of Silvia Gašparovičová – Education and Health for Everybody donored the Slovak First Lady Mrs. Silvia Gašparovičová a check in the amount of 300 Euro as a support of their activities.

Parkinsons met with the First Lady

In discussions with representatives of the association First Lady of Slovakia was interested particularly in the manifestations of the disease, the treatment options, as well as health care facilities regarding the treatment of Parkinson’s disease.

Mrs. Gašparovičová has also tried a special glove that can a healthy human bring feelings of people with Parkinson’s, because the glove is able to induce numb and tingling hands.

First Lady also expressed her hope for greater attention to be paid to the disease and to those patients. "It is very important not only to help them from the side of healthy people, but also they need emotional support and advice from sick people, so they can support each other," said Mrs. Gašparovičová.

The non-profit organization Parkinson Slovakia Association unites people in Slovakia affected by the Parkinson’s disease, as well as their family members, supporters and professionals. The next organization´s event will be ´Parkinsoniáda´ (sports olympics), which will be held from 2 to 4 August 2013 in Piešťany, where "parkinsons" will compete in table tennis, swimming, petanque, bowling, darts and other competitions.
