President negotiates with UN Secretary General

Before the beginning of the UN General Assembly in New York on Sunday, 17 September 2023, Zuzana Čaputová met with UN Secretary General, Antonio Guterres.   

They mainly discussed the security situation in connection with the war in Ukraine and the solution to the climate crisis. According to the president, these are also the dominant topics of this year's General Assembly, which have a direct impact on the lives of all of us.

"In our conversation, the Secretary General appreciated that Slovakia stands on the side of international law and the UN Charter regarding the issue of Russian military aggression against Ukraine. He also highlighted the steps that our country has already taken and continues to take to achieve climate neutrality by 2050."

The session of the UN General Assembly will begin on Tuesday and the president will speak in the general debate on Wednesday.
