President Appreciates the Work of Experts after Their Return from Ukraine

On Thursday 5 May 2022, President Čaputová received Slovak experts after their return from Ukraine.

Medical examiners, criminalist technicians and anthropologists helped their Ukrainian colleagues to collect and analyse evidence which will be used for the purpose of investigating war crimes in Ukraine.  The president initiated their mission after she was informed about the massacres in Bucha and Irpin."Slovakia was the second country to send such a mission to Ukraine. I would like to thank the Ministry of Interior, the Ministry of Health, the police department, the Health Care Surveillance Authority as well as our diplomats working in Ukraine for quickly resolving the logistic, legal and financial requirements of this mission."

According to the president, our experts did not hesitate when they received this offer to travel despite the great risks involved due to Russia’s ongoing invasion and rocket attacks on many Ukrainian cities, including Kiev. "During their mission they witnessed the most devastating consequences of the war first hand; they told me that they perceived the war there with all their senses. I am thankful to them for the work they carried out in Ukraine in finding objective facts which will help us to learn the truth that we need to know, no matter how horrifying it can be.”

The president awarded a medal of gratitude to each of the participants for their courage, professionalism and decision to participate in this mission.
