By solemn welcoming ceremony in the courtyard of the Presidential Palace in Bratislava began on 20 January 2011 the one-day official visit to the Slovak Republic of the President of the Republic of Hungary Pál Schmitt with delegation. After a tête-à-tête meeting and plenary discussions president Ivan Gašparovič expressed his pleasure of the official visit of the neighboring head of state and emphasized the friendly atmosphere. In bilateral talks senior officials from both countries devoted primarily Slovak-Hungarian relations.

The same friendly atmosphere prevailed during the visit at the tourism fair ITF Slovakiatour and the gala evening at the Presidential Palace, which was attended also by the First Lady Mrs. Silvia Gašparovičová. Subsequently, President of the Republic of Hungary, H. E. Pál Schmitt with delegation traveled to their homeland.
