On 11th January 2011, President Ivan Gašparovič and his spouse Silvia met with representatives of churches and religious societies operating in Slovakia. The meeting also attended Minister of Culture of the Slovak republic Daniel Krajcer.
The state should not compete with churches, but cooperate, said the President of the Slovak republic in his speech, noting that in 2013 we are awaiting of the 1150. anniversary celebrations of the arrival of St. Cyril and Methodius in Great Moravia. Not only churches will celebrate these two saints, apostles and co-european patrons, who brought the Holy Scriptures in a speech near to our ancestors. President also urged to support the family, because families create conditions for education, spiritual life and even organized civil community of the Slovak Republic. He wished church officials that they would manage to create a civil community of the Slovak Republic which will be followed in other European countries.
For the present church hosts wished a happy New Year to the head of state and his wife Archbishop of the Roman Catholic Church in Slovakia Mons. Stanislav Zvolenský, representative of the Ecumenical Council of Churches in Slovakia Mr. Miloš Klátik and representative of the Jewish religious community Mr. Pavol Traubner. A common ecumenical prayer for Slovakia was held at the end of the meeting in the Chapel of St. Barbara at the Presidential Palace. |
