At the traditional New Year meeting in the President´s palace on 16 January 2008 welcomed the president Ivan Gašparovič together with his spouse Silvia heads of diplomatic missions in Slovakia. This event attended also the Minister of Foreign Affaires Mr. Ján Kubiš.
Mr. President especially welcomed the new US ambassador Vincent Obsitnik, who is the first native Slovak in this for Slovakia very significant position. He thanked ambassadors of countries during the last year he alone or together with his spouse oficially visited – Italy, Ireland, Cyprus, Moldova, Croatia, Spain and Syria – as well as countries the representatives of which we welcomed in Slovakia – Czech Republic, Netherlands, Serbia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Poland. He thanked also that ones who helped him at occasionally multilateral foras in New York, Brno or Keszthely for their part at the success of these missions.
At the end of her speech Mr. President thanked all diplomats for all they made for friendly relationships between Slovakia and their countries and nations. He wished them, as well as the First Lady Silvia Gašparovičová, only the best for the New Year, many energy and success.
For the guests spoke Mr. Huang Zhongpo – doyen of the diplomatic core. All of them and especially Slovakia he wished a happy New Year. He appreciated the success of Slovakia – economical and political ones, especially in the international context. „We perceive with pleasure the achievements reached by Slovakia and admire them really much.“ |
