On 9 - 11 September 2012 First Lady of Slovakia Mrs. Silvia Gašparovičová together with her husband President Ivan Gašparovič made the first-ever official visit to the Swiss Confederation. At the beginning of the official visit the presidential couple met in Zurich our compatriots living in Switzerland and together with the Swiss President Eveline Widmer-Schlumpf they attended the gala concert of the slovak opera singer Edita Gruberova. Then they moved to the capital, Bern.
During the second day of the official visit Mrs. Silvia Gašparovičová visited the Paul Klee Center, where in addition to the works of this Swiss artist also contemporary modern art is exhibited. Than she viewed the historic medieval part of Bern, which is registered as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
During the third day of the visit, President of the Slovak Republic and his spouse moved to Geneva, where they visited the headquarters of the European Organisation for Nuclear Research - CERN and viewed the underground Large Hadron Collider. Then they visited the UN Office at the Palace of Nations, where the President of the Slovak Republic made a speech in the UN Commission on Human Rights.
