President of the Slovak Republic Ivan Gašparovič received the departing Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the USA to Slovakia, Vincent Obsitnik, at a farewell audience.
During the discussion, the Slovak President thanked Mr. Obsitnik for his diplomatic work, the highlight of which was the removal of the visa requirement for Slovaks travelling to the United States of America. According to Ivan Gašparovič, relations between Slovakia and America are currently at their best level ever since Slovakia became independent. The Slovak President also highlighted the level of mutual communication with the Ambassador which was not only official but also friendly. The President also expressed wishes that Mr. Obsitnik, as a native Slovak, continued helping Slovaks even after his return to the USA.
Vincent Obsitnik pointed out the firm standpoints of the Slovak President, particularly in defence policy and security matters. Mr. Obsitnik also highlighted performance of Ivan Gašparovič at the North-Atlantic Alliance, as well as his approach during the removal of the visa requirement for Slovaks travelling to the USA. The departing Ambassador said that “Slovakia has every right to be proud, as by its accession to the Eurozone it has joined the group of the world’s leading countries”.
