Spouse of the President of the Slovak Republic Mrs. Silvia Gašparovičová attended on 1 July 2011 the opening ceremony of the reconstructed Old Town Hall on the Main Square in Bratislava, that is one of the oldest buildings in the capital of Slovakia. The original romanesque house of the reeve Jacob from the 13th century became property of the city and during the time the so called Unger and Pawer houses were added to it. Subsequently, in 1912 the neo-renaissance, reo-gothic wing was built.

„New“ Old Town Hall in Bratislava

The building was used as a City Hall from the 15th to the late 19th century. At that time it also served for another purposes such as a prison, mint, place of business and celebrations. It was used as a depository for armory and city archive. In the town hall facilities now houses the Museum of Bratislava. On 11 August 2008 the gates of the Old Town Hall were closed due to complex reconstruction. A new exhibition of Bratislava´ history in the renovated premises will be open to public from 2 July 2011 on.
