On 5th-7th June 2011 Mrs. Silvia Gašparovičová together with President Ivan Gašparovič attended the official visit to Lithuania.
During the ladies’ program on 6th June 2011 had the Slovak First Lady the chance to get acquainted with the activities of the Youth Psychological Aid Centre (YPAC) in Vilnius, aimed at voluntary and professional psychological and social counseling and support for children and youth. Since 1993, the Center provides crisis intervention and suicide prevention, as well as follow-up care and operates a non-stop helpline. Given that in Lithuania is a relatively high number of suicides, the operation of such centers is highly desirable. As Mrs. Gašparovičová said, "your activity is of great importance."
Subsequently, the First Lady viewed facilities of the Ear, Nose, Throat and Eye Department of the Children’s Hospital in Vilnius, where they operate as well as hearing impaired and blind children. Mrs. Silvia Gašparovičová, who is a long-term supporter of disabled children, was interested in the current methods, instrumentation and results in this area.
Afterwards, Mrs. Silvia Gašparovičová and her husband viewed the towns Palanga and Neringa, that are bordering the Baltic Sea. The Kursk region, which includes also the city of Neringa, is registered in the UNESCO World Heritage Site. |
