Not just memories of a visit to Portugal in 2005, but in particular ways to help disabled people to integrate them into the society - also these were topics that discussed together during the official visit of Portuguese President and his wife to Slovakia on 5th September 2008 the First Ladies of both countries - Mrs. Silvia Gašparovičová and Mrs. Maria Cavaco Silva.
Mrs. Gašparovičová informed the First Lady of Portugal about several projects of her Foundation. She commended the fact in Portugal the state doesn´t forget to help handicapped and gives them a helping hand. "The state can not cover all of these issues. The third sector is therefore of great importance." According to Mrs. Maria Cavaco Silva "the state cannot or should not do everything because the civil society gives more heart into this work."
This year started a new project in schools in Portugal. Its aim is to integrate disabled children into regular schools. As the wife of the Portuguese president said, even though this test year, "parents have concerns and argue that schools are not technically ready." In Slovakia, such integration is progressing well for several years.
Mrs. Gašparovičová informed Mrs. Cavaco Silva about establishing of an internet university in Slovakia. "It’s also a way to educate people with disabilities and they don´t have to travel." After discussion the two ladies viewed the exhibition ´111 works from the collections of the Slovak National Gallery.´ |
