Silvia Gašparovičová took an active part in the 10th Anniversary of Daffodil Day that has been held by the League Against Cancer since 1997. On Friday 7 April 2006 morning, in the Presidential Palace, Mrs Gašparovičová met with students of the Secondary Grammar School in Tomášikova Street in Bratislava and their oncological education teacher Ms Abrahámová. These students were among 13 000 volunteers engaged in the largest nation-wide fundraising aimed at helping oncological patients and collecting funds enabling to provide early information on prevention of this insidious disease.

In the afternoon, the First Lady, accompanied by Chairman of the League Against Cancer Eva Siracká, Prime Minister’s wife, wife of the Chairman of the National Council, Mayor of Bratislava-Staré Mesto Municipality, and other personalities of cultural and public life, was walking Bratislava Promenade giving passersby yellow daffodils – flowers of spring and symbols of the fight against cancer.
