The largest and most expensive Olympic Games – these also were attributes of the XXIX. Summer Olympic Games in China, which began on the magic date 08/08/2008. In the hermetically guarded stadium "Bird Nest" among the 51 heads of states was also the Slovak President Ivan Gašparovič and his wife present. For the most watched sporting event was Beijing preparing perfectly for several years. In the opening ceremony they introduced their 5000 years history, Chinese culture and colorful light effects.
According to Mrs. Silvia Gašparovičová the opening of the Olympics so far exceeded all expectations. "The country was well prepared to present their culture from the development of paper and letters on, till the modern present of the state today. It´s really a beautiful experience, especially when you see it live. Everyone felt that he is participating in a very important event.“
The First Lady was fascinated by the architecture of sports facilities. Top foreign experts and using the latest technology was used at their construction. Their quality during the Olympics tested by themselves not only athletes but also visitors.
Presidential couple encouraged in particular our athletes at Beijing stadiums where the Slovaks were represented. As Mrs. Gašparovičová said, "athletes felt the support of the presidential couple, especially in the water slalom race. Our encouraging was heard most, but also the Chinese were encouraging the sportlers." |
