President of the Slovak Republic had received the Ambassador of Portugal

February 14, 2005

Extraordinary and plenipotentiary ambassador of Portugal in Slovakia José Ernst Henzler Vieira Branco had presented his credentials in the Presidential Palace to the SR President Ivan Gasparovic. During their talk Ivan Gasparovic had expressed his pleasure that Mr. José Ernst Henzler Vieira Branco is the first ambassador of Portugal to Slovakia, which according to Ivan Gasparovic is the sign of well developing relations. Nevertheless, the Slovak President sees great opportunities developing mutual cooperation and mutual investments. The Portuguese ambassador had emphasised in this regard that the development of the automotive industry in Slovakia is the signal for Portuguese entrepreneurs to notice our country as a place for their investments. Portugal also wishes to share with Slovakia its experience with it’s hitherto membership in the European Union. President of SR was also interested in the opinion and position of Portugal toward the European Constitutional Agreement. The Portuguese ambassador had confirmed that the majority of the people support it. There will be no referendum held in this regard but it will only be approved in the Portuguese Parliament.
