On 3rd January 2011 on the occasion of the Day of the Establishment of the Slovak Republic has President Ivan Gašparovič granted the highest state honors. At the ceremony were present also First Lady Mrs. Silvia Gašparovičová, former Presidents Michal Kováč and Rudolf Schuster, President of the Constitutional Court Ivetta Macejková, Speaker of the National Council of the Slovak Republic Richard Sulík, members of the government and parliament, representatives of churches, diplomatic corps and other guests.
In his speech Mr. President congratulated the laureates and also pointed out that the valuation of people – individuals who, despite the complexities, particularly envy, could exemplary work at themselves and also for social welfare and the good reputation of Slovakia – shows that we can evaluate the significance of our personalities in history. "The highly appreciation combines a rare duty: with own attitudes and acts to defend the moral credit of the state," said Ivan Gašparovič.
This year more than 200 proposals for awarding were received from individuals, collectives, communities and organizations. 1st Class Ľudovít Štúr Order took in 2011: MUDr. Michal Valent for extraordinary contributions to the development of medical sciences in the field of gynecology, obstetrics and parasitology and Elena Kaliska for outstanding merit in sport. Award was in memoriam awarded to JUDr. Milan Ferko, Ján Cikker and Svetozár Stračina for outstanding merit in the development of arts and culture, particularly in the area of music making.
2nd Class Ľudovít Štúr Order took: MUDr. Daniel Bartko, RNDr. Peter Biely, MUDr. Ján Breza, Ivan Galamboš, Ján Kačala, Milan Laluha, RNDr. Branislav Sitár and Dominik Hrbatý. 2nd Class Pribina Cross was awarded to Ing. Juraj Cvečko for outstanding merit in cultural development, particularly in the culture of Croatian minority. 2nd Class Order of the White Double Cross was awarded to Walter Greschner for outstanding merit in the development of relations between the Slovak Republic and Germany and the empowerment of the Slovak Republic in international relations. |
