Ivan Gašparovič Meets Austrian President Heinz Fischer

President of the Republic of Austria Heinz Fischer accepted an invitation by Slovak President Ivan Gašparovič to an informal working meeting, with the presence of both First Ladies, in Slovenský Grob, Slovakia. The Presidents appreciated the excellent level of neighbourly relations between Slovakia and Austria. They also discussed the recent issues in bilateral relations as well as developments across the European Union.

In the context of bilateral agenda, they primarily focused on cross-border and regional-level cooperation, in particular with respect to the ongoing and planned infrastructure development projects. The Slovak President appreciated Austria as one of the most important trade and investment partners to Slovakia.

As regards the European Union affairs, the two top officials discussed the preparations for the Eastern Partnership summit to be held in November in Vilnius, Lithuania. They shared their opinions and views on the situation in the European Union with respect to the next year’s election to the European Parliament. The informal meeting proved the extraordinary relations between the Slovak and Austrian president. Ivan Gašparovič accepted an invitation to visit the Republic of Austria next spring.
