In Hong Kong, Ivan Gašparovič discussed with government representatives and businesspeople the possibilities of a more intensive bilateral cooperation with Slovakia.
The President’s entourage on his visit to this Asian metropolis also included Economy Minister Juraj Miškov and Slovak businesspeople. “The talks I held with the businesspeople and city representatives have assured me that there is a whole gamut of opportunities for starting a good cooperation between Hong Kong and Slovakia,” the head of state noted. President of the Executive Council of the Government of Hong Kong Donald Tsang noted that the city, as a financial and economic centre with low taxes and a simple legal system, was attractive for businesses and investments from all around the world.
Ivan Gašparovič also paid an official visit to Macau to discuss with the local government the ways to start political and economic relations with this distant special administrative region of China.
The head of state noted that Macau was an interesting partner for Slovakia in that it could contribute to increasing the volume of Slovak exports to the People’s Republic of China. The Slovak Republic considers economic and business cooperation to be the most promising area. “We are looking for partners for joint investments in IT, electronics as well as tourism and the spa industry,” the Slovak President told Chui Sai On, Chief Executive of Macau.
