On 5th-6th November 2010 President Ivan Gašparovič and his spouse attended the summit of the Visegrad Four countries in Carlsbad (Karlovy Vary). The two-day summit began with the official ceremony with military honors in the center of Carlsbad – at the Mill Colonnade. The Slovak presidential couple, along with the presidential couples of Hungary, Poland and the Czech Republic went through the city center, where they greeted dozens of people who did not miss seeing the Presidents and their wives.
While presidents discussed, the First Ladies visited during the ladies’ program the famous Moser glass factory, founded in 1857 by glasscutter Ludwig Moser. They viewed the hand manufacture of glass and the glasscutters manufactured their initials into the glass. It is interesting that Moser uses also the Office of the President of the Slovak Republic during the adoption of official visits and gala dinners and lunches arranged in the Presidential Palace.
After lunch, the spouses of presidents viewed the famous spa town Carlsbad and taked the taste of traditional spa wafers.
The second day of the V4 Summit on 6th October 2010 First Ladies of the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary and Poland visited the castle Bečov. Ladies viewed the precious Romanesque reliquary of St. Maur from the 13th century, the second most precious relics in the Czech republic after coronation jewels. In the castle chapel of St. Peter children from the local music school have prepared a cultural program with for the First Ladies. As First Lady Mrs. Gašparovičová said, "the stay in Carlsbad and visit of the castle Bečov were excellent, I felt very well here and I believe that the excellent atmosphere of the summit will bring to pass the next year in Hungary." |
