On 13 February 2012 began in Slovakia the second annual National Marriage Week with the motto "In Good and Bad." The auspice over the campaign took the First Lady of Slovakia Mrs. Silvia Gašparovičová, who at the press conference (by which the week of marriage started) expressed gratitude to the organizers due to the fact she considers the campaign very beneficial. "We should appeal on young people, we must realize why marriage is important. Recently, we see that more and more young couples are living together without binding, there lacks a sense of confidence and strong relationship." Said Silvia Gašparovičová, who is already married for 48 years and in two years together with her husband they will celebrate the so called golden anniversary. "There are obligations of work and family, or one does not have time, but they must do everything possible to handle it together. Just natural intelligence, tolerance, ability to overcome problems and rise above pettiness are needed."

National MW Coordinator Vladimír Sochor argued that every marriage can become routine over time and this campaign should bring a fresh wind into the routine. "The National Marriage Week also includes testimonies from ordinary people but also of personalities, to show the good choice, which marriage is." Aim of the National Marriage Week is to create space to highlight the value of marriage as a unique relationship between a man and a woman.

NMW is co-organized by the capital city Bratislava. As the spokesman of the Mayor Ľubomír Andrassy said, the number of marriages gradually decreases and Bratislava is at the top level of divorces. "Theme of the traditional family is for Bratislava still of the priority ones and therefore once again I would like to emphasize why the Slovak capital joined the national campaign."

History of this campaign dates back to 1997, when Englishman Richard Kane decided to show the importance and benefits of marriage to society and individuals. Marriage Week Campaign has received the support of political and social life figures – it was held under the auspices of the British Prime Minister Tony Blair and his wife during his tenure. Marriage Week is currently hold in Germany, the Netherlands, Czech Republic, Hungary and other countries.
