On the fourth day of the official visit of the Slovak presidential couple to Japan (June 29, 2012), Ivan Gašparovič together with his spouse Silvia moved by Nozomi Shinkansen train from Tokyo to Osaka. The presidential couple visited the Osaka University, on which campus Ivan Gašparovič gave a lecture on "Slovakia in Europe – a responsible society" to more than three hundred students.
Subsequently, the presidential couple met with the Governor of Osaka Prefecture, Osaka Deputy Mayor and Mayor of Sakai, as well as with compatriots – members of the Kansai Friendship Society. Moreover, they viewed Japanese Mint in Osaka, where they forge coins, medals and enamel products. Here you can find also an exhibition of the winner of coin design competition for the Japanese Mint in 2011 Mrs. Mária Poldaufová from the Slovak Mint in Kremnica.
Each year at the time of flowering cherry trees (from end of March to mid April) the Japanese Mint property along the river Yodo in Osaka of approx. 560 m are for one week open to the public so that visitors can view the blooming cherry trees. It is a regularly annual and very popular festival of admiration of flowering trees. The blooming beauty consists from about 350 trees of 120 sorts.
The presidential couple also visited the Panasonic Center in Osaka. Here the presidential couple heard presentation on the activities of the company that employs more than 300-thousand people in the world and also has its three plants in Slovakia – in the production of dashboards, batteries for hybrid engines, DVD and Blue Ray players they employ up to 2,150 people. Presented was also a research project in which since 2007 Panasonic cooperates with the University of Žilina. Also introduced were other activities of the company for school students in the Žilina Region in Slovakia. Panasonic also promotes conservation of nature in Slovakia. |
