On Saturday, 19 June 2005, wife of the President of the SR Silvia Gašparovičová awarded the champions of the international tennis tournament of the wheelchair players SLOVAKIA OPEN 2005, held under her patronage. The 12th tournament was organised by the Slovak Union of the Disabled Sportsmen, delegated by the International Tennis Federation ITF, on 15-18 June 2005 on the tennis courts of TJ Slávia Právnik Bratislava. The tournament was attended by 57 players from 15 countries competing in two categories. In her speech, the First Lady appreciated the tradition of the international tournament for the wheelchair players and emphasised the fact that the 12 years of its existence shows our respect for the handicapped sportsmen and sportswomen, our appreciation of their tremendous efforts resulting in their excellent tennis playing, and our capability to enable them to confront their endeavour with players from other countries.

"Recently, I quite often meet with people who were not granted being healthy by their fate and any of those meetings have given me a lot. Now I understand that not always you need to be healthy or physically perfectly fit to find your place, but what you need most is your determination to accomplish something. It is the will of these people which is extremely strong and enlightening to the others," said Silvia Gašparovičová to the wheelchair players, including successful sportsmen and sportswomen from Slovakia.
