On 15 May 2014 First Lady of Slovakia Mrs. Silvia Gašparovičová attended in the Primate's Palace in Bratislava the celebrations of the Red Cross and Red Crescent World Day in Slovakia. On this day the Slovak Red Cross (SRC) awards multiple personalities for their long-term support, the development of blood donation or volunteer service and support.
Since 2010 is Mrs. Gašparovičová the honorary president of the Slovak Red Cross. In her speech she praised the activities of the SRC: "Since its existence, this global mass-movement helped and is still helping wherever help is most needed – in the fight against epidemics, calamities of war conflicts. As the RC founder Henry Dunant said, the Red Cross should be a light in the dark, which is lighted wherever there is suffering and pain. The Red Cross light shines also in our country, Slovakia, very clearly. Our society has already got used that the Slovak Red Cross lends a hand in emergency situations. In the most difficult moments human aid and solidarity are rarest," said Silvia Gašparovičová. She also thanked all awarded for the work they perform selflessly for the good of our fellow citizens.
From the hands of the Spouse of the President took this year the Slovak Red Cross Medal for Life Saving Mr. Miloš Paulík, Radoslav Kalanin and Michal Chorvát, who saved human lifes in a crisis situation.
In the afternoon awarded personalities and representatives of the Slovak Red Cross met at the premises of the Presidential Palace in Bratislava the Slovak President Ivan Gašparovič with his spouse. |
