On Friday, 11 March 2005, President‘s wife Mrs Silvia Gašparovičová, accompanied by two members of the supervisory board of the Silvia Gašparovičová Foundation - Education and Health for All, paid a short working visit to the town of Sobrance. Mayor Štefan Staško was informed of the First Lady’s activities and initiated the visit. He learned that on Thursday Mrs Gašparovičová would be awarding certificates to the participants of a training supported by the Foundation, thus he invited her to Sobrance to ask for her support in implementing a similar educational project for the disabled.

A production enterprise Doza, operating in Sobrance for two years, employs 12 handicapped persons, of which 11 women met with the First Lady. The employment capacity of the enterprise makes for 20 persons and the Mayor would appreciate to have it used in full. The First Lady paid her first visit to the local municipality office and had a discussion with municipality female deputies, a municipality education department head, a municipality health department member and a district labour office member from Michalovce. Silvia Gašparovičová explained the activities of the Foundation focused on assisting the socially needy and the handicapped especially in the less developed eastern regions. At the same time, she pointed out to the Foundation limited financing of projects and thus currently being relied upon sponsors, labour offices and local self-governments.
Mrs. Gašparovičová would like to help Sobrance and, being supported by the local municipality office, to open a branch of the First Public Academy there. The task of the local self-government and the local labour office would be to specify the areas of employment for the disabled. |
