President of the Slovak Republic Ivan Gašparovič and Silvia Gašparovičová welcomed on 6th December 2007 in the President´s palace children from children´s homes at the St. Nicholas Day. They thanked for their songs and carols with sweet gifts.
Traditionally one of the children together with Mrs. Gašparovičová symbolic lighted up the Christmas tree in the President´s office and in front of the palace. At the same time was the festive palace´s lightening turned on. Children warmly welcomed St. Nicholas who brought a big backpack with sweeties and gifts. They thanked him with carols, dancing and self-made works of art – pictures, bells and honeycookies.
This year came 90 children from children´s homes in Remetské Hámre, Slovenské Nové Mesto, Sečovce, Veľké Kapušany and Moštenica, as well as from the folk ensemble Pilsko Oravské Veselé. At the end of the meeting the small Deniska from the children´s home in Remetské Hámre together with Mrs. Gašparovičová drawed loss children´s homes that will come to the President´s palace the next year – it will be the children´s homes in Žakarovce, Žilina and Ivánka pri Dunaji.
