President of the Slovak Republic Received NATO Secretary General

President of the Slovak Republic Ivan Gašparovič received NATO Secretary General Jaap de Hoop Scheffer. The President appreciated the recognition of Slovakia by Jaap de Hoop Scheffer who had called Slovakia a strong and reliable ally and partner. The NATO Secretary General stated that the Slovak Republic, by its NATO membership, had managed to improve its economic credit too, and thanks to its status of reliability Slovakia had become a target country for foreign investments.
The topics of the talk included also the operation of NATO in Afghanistan and Kosovo, the mission in Iraq, and the operation of Slovak units within NATO in the future. In addition, the partners talked about reorganizing NATO, also in terms of relations with other international institutions, such as UNO, EU or OECD.
The NATO Secretary General highlighted the involvement of the Slovak Republic in the major missions of the Alliance worldwide as well as the process of reforming Slovak armed forces. President Ivan Gašparovič voiced Slovakia’s strong support for these reforms.
