For the 6th time visited the First Lady Mrs. Silvia Gašparovičová compatriots living in Hungary. On 9th April 2011 at the Slovak Embassy in Budapest she attended the 13th annual event entitled "Slovak Housewife". All guests were first welcomed by the Slovak Ambassador to Hungary Peter Weiss. "We are delighted that you came to us once again to this traditional pre-eastern action. I would like to wish you, Mrs. Gašparovičová, and you all, especially our compatriots, that we have a nice day," said Peter Weiss.
This year’s theme of the meeting was "Slovak Folk Song – Living Water for the Slovaks in Hungary." First Lady is pleased that the Slovak countrymen maintain their mother tongue, culture and have a good relationship to the land of their ancestors. "Good habits you pass from generation to generation. In a few days we have spring holidays – Easter. With this holiday, however, you combine your first experience with water sprinkling or whipping. Many of you have certainly a lot of funny stories associated with this tradition," said the First Lady.
As the President of the Association of Slovaks in Hungary Mrs. Ruženka Egyedová - Baráneková said, "a folk song is our refuge, to which we turn when our various unfavorable and often political waves thrown to the reef."
Also this year skilful housewives – including also men – prepared sweet and salty meals, which the jury awarded in several categories. Although the winners may be only a few, all present agreed that to choose the best and most beautiful from so many goodies becomes from year to year more difficult.
Neither compatriots from Hungary forgot the anniversary of the Slovak President. They wished him good health and many success, and prepared him a sausage cake. |
