President of the Slovak Republic Ivan Gašparovič and his wife Silvia paid an official visit to the Kingdom of the Netherlands on 20 – 22 November 2012.
On the first day of the official visit Ivan Gašparovič and his wife were welcomed by Her Majesty Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands in Amsterdam, who had paid an official visit to the Slovak Republic in 2007. Together, they visited an integration centre run by the Oranje Fonds foundation under the auspices of Crown Prince Willem-Alexander and Princess Máxima with the aim of supporting social cohesion and solidarity. It´s also the seat of the LeerOrkest – an innovative music education project that helps children from multicultural environment to develop their musical talents. The Slovak President donored to these children the Slovak shepherd’s pipe (´fujara´), which is registered as a UNESCO Heritage. Afterwards, President Gašparovič and Mrs. Gašparovičová accompanied by Her Majesty the Queen visited the restoration workshops in Rijksmuseum – the museum of traditional arts.
During a separate ladies´ program on the second day of the official visit Mrs. Silvia Gašparovičová visited the Anne Frank Museum and viewed the city of Amsterdam by a cruise along the canals. In the afternoon she visited the museum and pottery production in Delft. This pottery is very similar to the Slovak majolica, which is produced in Modra. Subsequently, the Slovak presidential couple met with compatriots living in the Netherlands and attended a concert of classical music presented by prominent Slovak artists held in the Louwman Museum in Wassenaar.
On the third day of the official visit on 22 November 2012 together with Her Majesty the Slovak presidential couple visited Dutch major research and development centers in Helmond and Eindhoven.
