Slovak President Meets Chairman of the Bosnia and Herzegovina Tripartite Presidency, Nebojša Radmanovič
Slovak President Ivan Gašparovič received the incumbent Chairman of the Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) Tripartite Presidency, Nebojša Radmanovič.
Gašparovič presented Slovakia as a member of the Euro-Atlantic structures which is actively engaged in handling their foreign policy issues. The Slovak President stressed that Slovakia was ready to help BiH in its integration effort. Nebojša Radmanovič thanked Slovakia’s President for the assistance and support for his country’s integration into the Euro-Atlantic structures. He noted that at the time of the break-up of the former Yugoslavia, BiH had not had the intellectual and economic power that Slovakia had when the former Czechoslovakia split up.
Radmanovič pointed out that the transformation of Bosnia and Herzegovina should lead to its integration into the EU. Before this happens however, his country still has many reforms and changes in legislation to make. Nebojša Radmanovič appreciated the role Slovakia and its officials played in the stabilisation of the Western Balkans. The Slovak President noted that Slovakia supported the EU’s further enlargement and asked Radmanovič for his opinion on the Kosovo issue. According to Nebojša Radmanovič, Kosovo is a crucial and dangerous problem both for Serbia and the entire Western Balkan region, and all possibilities for negotiations between the Serbs and Kosovo Albanians must be explored to their full. This problem cannot be settled without a consensus between Belgrade and Priština. President Gašparovič said that “anything must be considered and done which would lead to an agreement and not to a unilateral decision”.
