Spouse of the slovak President Mrs. Silvia Gašparovičová has long supported activities of the Slovak Red Cross, particularly in the field of blood donation and providing first aid. On 10th February 2010 she welcomed in the Presidential Palace in Bratislava representatives of the Slovak Red Cross. Its president, Mrs. Helena Kobzová, on this occasion asked the First Lady to take the post of the Honorary President of the Slovak Red Cross. "It would be a great honor for us if you would take this post. It´s not only you who helps the Red Cross, but also Mr. President, for what we thank you very much," said Mrs. Kobzová.
First Lady thanked for this opportunity. "Thank you very much for offering me this post. I am glad to help you," said Mrs. Silvia Gašparovičová, who became the honorary president of the Slovak Red Cross for 5 years.
Representatives of the Red Cross informed the First Lady about their activities, such as the Valentine Blood Drop or education of first aid, but also social services provided by the Red Cross and the amount of collections done by the Red Cross for victims of earthquake in Haiti. |
