Mrs. Silvia Gašparovičová, president of the Slovak Foundation of Silvia Gašparovičová – Education and Health for Everybody introduced on 2nd April 2007 a new project of her foundation „First Folk Academy – Life without Violence“. It happened at a press conference hold by the occasion of opening a regional centre for help victims of domestic violence.
The long-term project „Life without Violence“ introduced Mrs. Gašparovičová by the words: „We moved out of the actual situation and the need to help due to the fact violence in the society, families and schools is a big problem with long-term consequences. Our regional centre for helping the victims, especially of domestic violence ones, a complex project of help.“
The foundation founded with the help of partners an institution in the Western Slovak Region that will provide all-round help and support for victims of domestic and social violence. The complex approach will provide a multi-discipline team of needed specialists. The institution consists of a helpline, crisis centre and education centre. Aim of the project is to lower negative consequences of violence in the society through helping victims and improving prevention against violence through information and education.
Mrs. Silvia Gašparovičová also informed about international contacts in this area that were made at visits abroad. S highlighted especially the experiences from Italy and Ireland were a complex system of helping victims of domestic violence is made. The slovak First Lady was really surprised by the huge support and willingness of volunteers in crisis centres, but also from the state.
At the press conference in Hotel ECHO in Bratislava also other guests spoke to the press: Mgr. Marta Bujňáková from the Ministry of Home Affaires of the SR, JUDr. Stanislav Gaňa from the Office of the President of the SR, PhDr. Andrea Gontkovičová from the general sponsor Philip Morris Slovakia and PhDr. Elvíra Chadimová from the Slovak Foundation of Silvia Gašparovičová – Education and Health for Everybody. All of them agreed it´s necessary to help victims of violence but also to educate in a long-term persons of the first contact, improve information level of the society and make prevention.
