The slovak President Mr. Ivan Gašparovič together with his spouse Silvia welcomed on Thursday, 3 January 2008, in the President´s Palace a group of children – the Good news´ carollers. Children from Rožňava, Divina and Ďačov (eastern part of Slovakia) came to wish the presidential couple all the best.
Christian Children Communities Movement (eRko), that organizes this event already 13 years, will support with the collected money educational projects in Africa – especially in Sudan, Kenya and Uganda. „Dobrá novina“ (Good news) is an traditional activity in Slovakia. Her aim is to revive historical traditions of carolling, fulfilled lasting of Christmas days with really living of christmas joy and help for people in need – children in african countries. During the last year were about 17 million SKK collected in Slovakia, from which 25 projects in developing countries were supported.
Mr. Marián Čaučík, chairman of Christian Children Communities Movement, thanked in her speech Mr. President for the warm welcoming and pointed out eRko is representing about 20.000 children that also this year visited slovak households and notified the joyful news about nativity of Jesus. He higly appreciated ideas of Mr. President in his New Year speech about solidarity and closeness between people that Slovakia is still missing. He hopes the little carollers will be a good example and begin of this solidarity awake in the people.
The slovak president thanked the small carollers for their beautiful singed carols that remind him on his childhood when he was also going to sing carols. He hopes that in the Christmas time will people come closer and remember everything, what they have lived – good or bad, satisfaction, but also problems and tragedy. He appreciates the childrens´ effort to bring people joy, satisfaction and help others. Mrs. Silvia Gašparovičová expressed the wish that they meet again in such a friendly atmosphere in the next year. Mr. Ivan Gašparovič together with his spouse granted the Good news´ carollers the sum 10.000,- SKK. |
